I've heard of this issue before. On the TJ the top of the rear shock bolts on with some mickey mouse apparatus which is guarded by the gas tank. Mine is old and of course something up there broke off preventing any attempts to properly install the new extended ones that are going in. Wondering if anyone else has ran into this, how you got around it and if you were able to find a way to do it without dropping the gas tank and breaking out the welder... I will be installing a budget boost (coil spacers/shocks) in my TJ shortly and will most likely end up doing so in a parking lot with no welder or power tools so the solution may have to be creative lol. Thanks

I removed the plastic inner fenders and used a grinder, a dremel and an air chisel to cut the captured nuts off. Took a while but got rid of them. Just used bolts and nuts after that.

You can also use an extra long punch ( hard to find) and hammer it out.
