Hey All,
I just bought a locker...finally. As some of you may know, I'm extremely cheap. I've been locking for a deal on a locker for my ZJ for about 6 mos. and I finally found one. I learned about it from a buddy on JeepForum.com and I'm getting it from 4wheelparts.com out of California. $100 american for a brand new EZ-locker and they'll ship it for $17.99 (but it'll take 3 weeks to get here probably). If you're in a rush they'll get it to you in 5 to 10 days for $70.
Considering the next best deal was about $250 for an Aussie, I'm pretty impressed with this purchase.
Used lockers for the D35 are unheard of...probably cause no one bothers to lock them. I'm hoping with a light foot on the skinny and considering I don't wheel it super hard anyway that I'll be okay...yeah right. I guess I better try and find a spare set of axle shafts...

Good for you Adrian! Yeah I broke my D35 axle shaft with a Lockrite, so go easy on the pedal. Spare shafts are good especially since your wheel will fall off if breaks (if it's c-clip like mine). Cindy

Maybe this wasn't such a sweet deal. A few guys have ordered and received the same locker that I have coming and have had problems already. What I've come to find out is that the EZ-locker from Detroit has a terrible reputation and Detroit had manufacturing problems and has discontinued it. I guess some of them pop and snap even when driving straight and don't lock up correctly. Neither Detroit or the company I bought it from will warranty it. I think it's a case of Detroit screwing over retailers so to recover some of the costs, the retailer decided to blow them out and then refuse to warranty or refund them! I spoke to the retailer and they'll take it back if I don't install it and give me a store credit...but no refund.

Bummer. But at least you found out before it got installed rather than on a trail somewhere, busted. Put your store credit toward something better. It's not a total loss as at least you'll have that.

So is a lockrite a "lunchbox" style locker like an Aussie or an EZ-locker?
What are they worth and where can I get a decent buy on one?
I talked to them again, customer service this time instead of the saleman. They'll give me a refund, but it's gonna take a couple weeks to get it and then ship it back. No biggie.
I'm definitely getting something. The best deal I've seen so far is the Aussie direct from the manufacturer for about $300 (american).

Hey,
Just got off the phone with the buddy I ordered the EZ-locker from. He's going to take it back, and I'll only be out $20 shipping.
He's offered me a slight discount on a lockrite. $285.00 + 9.99 shipping (american). Is that a good deal or not?

I dunno what to do. Some folks that got the detroit EZ-locker from the same sale have had no issues, they're working fine for them. So I'm tempted to try my luck and try to save some coin and give the EZ that's on it's way a shot. If it's junk, I'm out $140 or so and I'll weld the bugger.
Thanks for the tip Jeff. Any idea if it's for a 94 and up with ABS? Apparently there is a difference.

Mine had ABS and was welded...but, the reason mine is being parted out is because it was welded...the stress on everything is just too much. Otherwise, it's a lunchbox locker, ya get what ya pay for, I'm sure they're equal.
